Apart from dancing lime trees, three other types of lime trees can be found in the countryside and in villages and towns :
- Simple lime trees, also called village lime trees.
- Justice lime trees : in past times the legal business of the village was dealt with under the lime tree’s branches.
- Storied lime trees : lime trees whose branches were trained horizontally to create up to three stories or more. This photo is of the outstanding Grettstadt lime tree, which has ten stories.
Certain very old specimens, no longer used as dance lime trees, become storied lime trees without dance floors. This photo shows a fine example found in Isling.
