DANCE LIME TREE OF LIMMERSDORF

A grateful and happy peasant planted the dance lime tree in Limmersdort to celebrate the end of the Thirty Years War.

This village, now nearly a thousand years old, is located near the lovely city of Thurnau in the Franken region.

Village and peasant customs developed over the centuries in Limmersdorf, and up to the present day, on and around the last Sunday in August, a celebration lasting several days takes place: the fête of the dance lime tree.

It should be pointed out that the stairway and dance floors are put into place especially for the festivities, and taken down late on its last night. The elevated dance floor in the lime tree is inaccessible for the rest of the year.

A young dance lime tree is growing in the same square, a few metres away from its venerable ancestor.
