DANCE LIME TREE OF EFFELDER

Effelder is found in the Effelder Valley at approximately 380 metres above sea level, on the southern border of the slate mountains of Thuringia.
Effelder’s thousandth anniversary celebrations, which included costumes, music and the pleasures of the table, took place in 1956 around its historic dance lime tree, which was planted in 1707.
The first wooden structure was built in 1751. The stone staircase was demolished in 1898.
A fine restoration of the dance floor platform took place in 1952, and the entire wooden support structure was renovated in 2001.
This beautiful dance lime tree of extraordinary proportions is one of the most majestic trees that continue to serve as the setting for traditional festivities.
