DANCE LIME TREE OF ISLING

Certain very old specimens, no longer used as dance lime trees, become storied lime trees without dance floors. This photo shows a fine example found in Isling.

The name of the poetic village of Isling, located in the Franken region of Germany, is derived from the name of Count Islo, the original settler. Isling is mentioned for the first time in 951 in a document issuing from King Otto 1, who reigned from 936 to 973.
Because of its great age, this venerable lime tree is no longer used as a dance lime tree; it has become a storied lime tree and remains a place of festivities. Isling has been reputed for the quality of its musicians for centuries.
